Hotel Review: Hotel Alt Bamberg

Situated minutes away from the historical center and the main touristic attractions, Hotel Alt Bamberg offers a good balance between price and offer. The rooms are generally clean, the personnel friendly and English speaking, and the breakfast is rich enough to boost your energy for a very busy day. Although hosted in a traditional timbered house, it is adapted to the needs of the modern life, especially heating conditions that make you forget the cold outside.
The rooms maintain the original historical ambiance, with wooden inserts near the wall, old - mine was green - doors and discrete paintings. My room was big enough to accomodate a big baby bed which adds family-friendliness to the advantages of the hotel. The room was provided with a basket with chips and snacks, the local variant of mini-bar, a big TV and a small office.
The bathroom is had hair drier and shampoos and body gel, acceptable quality-wise if you are looking just for some minimal comfort before long city explorations. The towels were not looking too fresh new or white-clean tough.
The breakfast is taking place in a space that in the evening hosts a Greek restaurant called Poseidon. There was a good selection of fresh veggies, cheese, jam and bread, and acceptable coffee too.
The personnel was friendly enough to allow me to park the baby pram in the lobby, as there is no elevator in the building - a disadvantage of a historical building, I suppose.
Although central, it is situated on a side-street, which guarantees a quiet night - at least during the cold winter time.
Overall, I've been happy with the conditions offered, but more attention to cleanliness would have been even better.
