Relaxing at the Liquidrom Berlin

Lately, I am very much into wellness and spas, and today I will take you to one of Berlin´s hottest spots: Liquidrom Berlin. Much sought after by both tourists and locals of all ages (with some limits, as one needs to be at least 12 years to be allowed, and until 18, a legal guardian should be present or give a written permission).

The place is situated within walking distance from Anhalter Bahnhof, close to Potsdamer Platz.

The following review is based on my personal experience and hope to help you find some cool weekend or relaxing activities.

The main attraction of the place - that actually brought me here - is the show of lights - DJs, various happennings - regularly organised in the main swimming pool. Hosted in an atrium, it has a very good resonance and is big enough to host dancing crowds. The water is lukewarm, and the change of lights creates a sense of embracing intimacy, no matter how many people may be around.

When I visited - on a Saturday, for two hours - it was unfortunately no show but may be tempted to come back soon to try the experience. As usual in Germany, it is recommended to book your slot in advance. You pay a small reservation fee afterwards and with card and cash at the reception desk. If you are a bit late - 60 minutes or so, you can call them and the staff looked very friendly. Also fluent in English.

The phone reception is almost non-existent therefore, be sure that you keep some hours free of any important business meetings or calls. It´s good to relax without screen time once in a while, isn´t it?

Upon payment, you are given a bracelet and next stop is the wardrobe. As everything in this place, it is mixed and although there are some small changing cabins, keep in mind the free body culture so typical for the German mindset. There are some places where you can cover your privacy with a towel - on loan from reception (a bathrobe too) or brought from home - but especially in the sauna, most of the people will wear the classical newborn outfit.

The access to the three themed saunas is included in the entry price, but if you want massage, for instance, you are expected to book in advance and pay additionally. I´ve tried all the saunas and although I loved the feeling, I´ve found it a bit too small, not always comfortable - my favorite one, with the herbs, it´s a bit inconvenient if there are around 6 people at the same time.

For those planning to spend a longer time, there are reclining chairs for the rest after. Saturday the place was buzzing - also from the showers´ sound, which are close by. The bar offers an easy snacks menu - the classical pommes are included - and some cocktails and prices are medium. I haven´t tried anything this time, but it looked affordable and enough for a few hours stay.

The design is brutalist, with lights and decos embellishing the bunker appearance.

I visited the place during the late winter and the temperature was pleasant. Despite the space limitations, I loved the non-pretentious youthish ambiance and most definitely would love to come back again, preferably during the weektime. And maybe I can catch with some shows as well one day as well.
