(Very) Fast or Slow Travel? This is the Question!

Almost one year ago, I was enjoying some very quiet time while in Prague, switching from one sauna room to another. It was middle of the day, and I was still in my hotel, instead of being out on the streets and exploring. Did something happened to me? After all, it was my first trip abroad after some difficult Covid (+ other health issues) years.

Maybe it was Prague: after all, I´ve been here for more than ten times on different occasions, especially after moving to Berlin, Prague is the capital city easiest to reach within few hours either by train, bus or by car. (This time, we were travelling by FlixBus, which was as usual an affordable and reliable option. But, actually, when we were not just enjoying the wellness, we did some city walks, long enough to see the main sightseeings and feel the vibe of the city, partially changed after Covid, especially due to the recent branding as recreational cannabis and CBD destination (more about that another time).

One upon a time, less than five years ago, I used to be a very intensive traveller. I loved to spend time in more than one countries at once and enjoyed the adrenaline-driven rides from one or more cities to another, while going faster than the Shinkansen through the to-do and to-see lists on my heavy notebooks. For time immemorial, it was my way to see the world and anything slower than this was a sign of laziness and failure.

But then, that day 365 days ago, my mind was finally processing the new options: definitely, I love to travel, discover new people, foods and languages. I love to share travel stories. I still want to visit all the countries in the world and admire their beauties. But, as writing mature, we, as humans we possible mature too, and I want to give my body and mind more space. I want to learn hearing what my body says (this is a figure of style because, no matter what happens to me in terms of health, I will never fully accept the fact that my body may have another plan than my mind, just sayin´). Getting rid of my fast, way too fast practices, it is part of the solution towards a quieter and more rewarding life when I want to stop putting too much pressure on myself.

Now, I am back in the business of travel, after few years of absence. Absence, but not lack of travel. I´ve used this time to develop other skills and small businesses, going (ever again) through a professional re-orientation. As many, I had to re-start completely anew after Corona, using old skills and knowledge, while learning new languages, skills (baby steps in the field of videography - you can find me on TikTok as @ilanatravels) and professional takes.

It´s survival of the fittest sometimes, but nevertheless, in the last few weeks, as reconnecting with the travel community, I realized how much I missed the inspiration and the positive feeling of seeing the world as your oyster (it´s a stereotype, I know, but it describes the feeling nevertheless). I am not trying to beautify everything, as I know not everything is green, and there is a lot of negativity and jealousy, but the only thing you can do when you cannot change things, is to change the way you react to an unexpected, negative circumstance.

All being said, I cannot wait to share my travel stories from the last years. My blog will mostly stay the same in terms of content, only will hopefully have a touch of wellness and inspiration to enjoy life in your own terms and based on your own expectations.

Also, expect more video contact soon!
